Kilimanjaro Elevation – How High is Mount Kilimanjaro?

The Kilimanjaro stands at about 5,895 meters high above sea level. The Kibo cone has the highest peak called Uhuru. There over 50,000 people that visit giant every year.

The highest mountain in the world is Everest which stands at an altitude of about 8,848 meters above sea level. The Kilimanjaro stands at an altitude of about 5,895 meters above sea level.

This makes the Kilimanjaro about 2,950 meters shorter than the tallest mountain in the world. However the Kilimanjaro is the tallest mountain in Africa.

The Everest Mountain is the tallest mountain in the World. However, the Kilimanjaro is the tallest free standing in the world not just Africa.

The Everest is part of the Himalaya Mountains and it’s not a free standing mountain while the Acongagua is part of the Andes mountain ranges.

The Kilimanjaro is not just a mountain but it’s surrounded by topical jungles that house a lot of wildlife. The mountain is within distance with another volcano, the mountain Meru.

The three peaks of the Kilimanjaro are Kibo, Mawenzi and Shira. Kibe is dormant and is expected to erupt in the future while Mawenzi and Shira are dormant cones.

Highest Point on Mount Kilimanjaro – Uhuru Peak

The highest peak on the Kilimanjaro and it’s located on the Kibo peak. It’s at 5895 meters above sea level which is the highest point of the Kilimanjaro Mountain. This portion the mountain alone receives over 30,000 people a year.

Kibo – Highest Peak on Kilimanjaro

This is the tallest cone of the Kilimanjaro and it houses the Uhuru peak which is the highest point of the Kilimanjaro. The Barranco wall is also on the slopes of this cone.

Mawenzi – Second Highest Peak

This the second tallest cone of the Kilimanjaro and it stands at an altitude of about 5148 meters above sea level. The summit of this cone is called Mawenzi.

Shira – Third Highest peak

This is the third of the Kilimanjaro cones. Its flat area and more like a plateau on the top.  The erosions over the years have sunk the crater on the top to create a flat area on the top. This cone is also extinct and will not erupt anytime in the future.
