The Stella Point of Kilimanjaro Mountain in Tanzania

There are three points on the Kilimanjaro that are the official areas to summit to the Kilimanjaro. The points are Gilman’s point, Uhuru peak and the Stella Point.

The Stella point is located south of the Uhuru peak and its lies at an elevation o about 5,756 meters above sea level. This point is also the last point of the slopes filled with scree on the Kibo cone which you use the Barafu huts route.

Stella Point or Uhuru Peak which is the top of Kilimanjaro?

Of course everyone’s dream is to make sure they reach the highest point of the Kilimanjaro, but due to altitude sickness, weak bodies and exhaustion make may one opt to just summit the Kilimanjaro at the Stella point.

The steal point is however the hike from the Stella point to the Uhuru point is about 230 meters and its abit smooth compared to the hike from the Barafu hut to the Stella point.

The Ascent to Stella Point is the last stage of the Summit

The descending from the Uhuru peak to the Stella point is a bit demanding since you are already exhausted and the slope is a bit steep and if not careful, the legs may fail to move the weight of the body and you are prone to falling.

The ascending is abit easy since you will b coming from the Barafu huts camp.

Sunrise at Stella Point, Mount Kilimanjaro

You will set off from the Barafu huts camp at around midnight such that you get to the Stella point at dawn.

With this, you will be able to see the sun rising from the Stella Point ant leave before the rays become too hot.

The views you get while the sun is rising will give you the best feeling.

Vegetation and Climatic Zone

This area is located in the Arctic vegetation zone of the Kilimanjaro Mountain. At the level of about 5000meters above sea level, we find the arctic zone which is characterized by the frozen moonscape.

This pace is covered in rocks and ice. The nights usually cold to the extreme and the sun has scotching rays during the day.

This area has no life that survives and those small plants that try to grow can’t go beyond.

Which Routes take you to Stella Point?

The Machame Route, Lemosho Route, Umbwe Route, and Shira Route all lead to Stella Point. Through Stella Point, Barafu Camp, and Millennium Camp, one descends from the top before arriving at Mweka Gate.
