The Tarangire National Park is known to have one of the highest numbers of animal concentration with very beautiful Landscapes in Tanzania.

The park covers an area of 2,850 square Kilometers which makes it the sixth largest park in Tanzania.
The National park derives its name from the Tarangire River which goes through the park. This also influences the amount of animals that are in this area.

This national park has the highest number of elephant population in Tanzania. During the dry season o July to October, there are over 4000 elephants that come to Tarangire.
This is because there is a permanent source of water here. Some migration can have over 300 elephants in one group.
There are other animals that also migrate here other than the Elephants such as the lions since they have to follow their prey, the Zebras and species of Antelopes.
There is s short drive with good roads from Arusha which is the nearest city to the Tarangire National Park.
Therefore one can hike the Kilimanjaro and add on a two days safari to this national park.
Wildlife in Tarangire National Park
Known for mostly large herds of Elephants that’s usually fill this place in the dry seasons especially during the months of July to October, there are also other animals that one can see while on safari here.
These include the Hippos, Rhinos, Buffalos and Antelopes.
There are also Lions that come here following their prey. In this category we also have the cheetahs and Leopards, the wild dogs and Hyenas.
This park is also good for birders as it is home to over 500 bird species.
When to visit Tarangire National Park
Tarangire national park can visited any time of the year but it’s advised that one visits during the two spells of the dry season.
The dry seasons come in the months of Mid June to September and December to February.
During this time the animals also migrate to come closer to the water source which is the Tarangire River.
The season to try and avoid is the one from March to Mid June and October to November. This period is characterized by large volumes of rain and the place becomes so messy and saggy.
The flow of tourists is usually low, so for people that want the wilderness to themselves, you can plan and visit during this time.
